Fourth Grade - Science

Today we started Apologia's Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology. Did I ever study any of this in school? It's been so long I can't remember...

The suggested schedule is for covering the material in a lesson twice a week.  But it is sooooo long - Samuel does better with short periods of study - 15 minutes. 20 max.  I was so excited about the new book that I forgot about Samuel's attention span.    This picture was taken right after beginning the process of mummifying an apple.  I should have stopped after taking this picture...

Anyway. I will once again tweak the schedule so that we have science 4 times a week - shorter periods of time. Happy faces.

Thanks Grandma & Grandpa!

For my new camera.

Samuel

Happy New Year!

Whew! sure is a lot of kids!

If you ask Samuel what was the best part of Christmas he will respond "Being with all my cousins". I'm still recuperating....

Reading Out Loud

I just thought MAYBE Samuel would be interested in reading to me if he read his book on the Kindle.
It didn't work....

Faces

Once again Samuel complains as I lead him to the sofa for Art class. We look and study Portrait of a Lady in Yellow by Alesso Baldovinetti, Three-Faced mask, Nigeria, and Senecio by Paul Klee.  We are studying Faces and how they are portrayed differently in art.

Throughout the 5 minutes of class, Samuel is disgruntled and disinterested. Then I read the instructions for the activity to follow and he becomes an attentive student.  I bring out the canvas, tempera paints, new brushes, a pencil and the sound of Mozart's music in the background...

His final words to me? "Mommy, NOW I feel like an artist. I LOVE art class.  It is my favorite!"
