Art Class

We are using my parent's house for everything!!!!

The newest group is an art class (for kids Samuel's age...) taught by our friend Ms. Eva.

At their very first class they learned about artist Richard Long and his work Mud Hand Circles, and then proceeded to each create their own with tempera paint instead of mud.

They loved washing their hands in between and making dirty water.

And now their works of art hang in our homes!

Yesterday we even talked about having an art exhibition...maybe the dads and grandparents will come and purchase a work of art and we can raise funds for art supplies! Do we sound desperate?

We are now working through eight watercolor techniques which have been a total hit.

Pennsylvania Dutch Metal Punching Square

Today was one of those days where regular school was not going to happen. Another trip to the dentist for me calls for a "Special Projects" day. So Samuel worked on place value, vowel sounds and his January Journal while I sat with my mouth open uncomfortably lying in the dentist's chair. I was lying there...congested...unable to breathe...miserable...Oh wait! this is Samuel's blog!
OK, so after lunch we worked on our special project, Pennsylvania Dutch Metal Punching Square we received in our Winter Kit.

First he punched holes in the metal sheet with nail and hammer,

then painted a cardboard with black tempera paint;

and for the final step he glued the metal to the cardboard.

It turned out to be a very nice work of art. Thanks Amanda!

Artistic Expression - HOD Unit 17 Day 2
