Samuel's 9th birthday trip took an unexpected turn on day 1!

As we traveled towards Carlsbad Caverns, in New Mexico, we received a phone call from Grandma in Costa Rica, Central America.  She had just heard on the news that Carlsbad Caverns had closed due to wildfires.  

Really?  

She heard it in Costa Rica, and we were a couple of hours away and knew nothing!

Change of plans.  Let's go see some aliens!

Maybe it was too hot for them (around 111 degrees)...they never showed up.  But we were able to find a nice hotel to cool off in and decide on a new itinerary.

Next morning we decided to hunt for aliens in downtown Roswell...but only this painting was found.  Maybe it was just too early!
